You Can Learn A Lot From A Collection Agency

Network marketing can be compared to a lot of things, but a collection agency? Think about it, they have no shame in their game. They will call you and call you and then call you some more. And don’t let them get your cell number, it gets crazy (from what I’ve heard:-) Let me explain.

I just got back from getting a haircut this morning (looks rather good by the way:-). Anyway, the barber and I started talking about business and jobs and money. But we mainly talked about business because he owns the shop. He had mentioned that he didn’t leave work until about 8:30pm last night and he got there about 8am. Imagine working 8am to 7pm Monday through Friday and then 8am to 5pm on Saturdays. He said although he makes good money, he doesn’t have time to enjoy it because being a business owner requires a lot of your time. He’s got to be there to open up, it just comes with the territory. Now if you really stop to think about it, he doesn’t really own the business; the business owns him!

People have this perception that owning a business requires a building……brick and mortar. “GONGGGG!” (anyone remember The Gong Show). Not true anymore because one out of eight households have a home-based business and this number is growing steadily. Traditional businesses require high startup costs. Then there’s the overhead, utilities, employees, insurance, etc. The barber requires that the other barbers be done cutting by no later than 30 minutes past closing. This way he can gauge what his electric bill will be on a monthly basis.

Ok, let me get to the collection agency comparison. After my haircut I asked him if he had a business card because I wanted to talk to him about business at a later time. Now I love online marketing, but you’re not always in a position to market online. Offline marketing is effective as well. Become a collector of business cards and phone numbers as a means to generating leads. When you’re out at a restaurant and your server gives you good service, it doesn’t hurt to give them kudos on a job well done. People love compliments and recognition. Ask them if they’re open to a business venture and if yes, ask them what’s the best way to contact them (collecting information). The key is to be in a hurry because you don’t want to have to sit there and explain your business to them. So let them know that you will contact them later. This strategy actually keeps the person in suspense because, as people we want to be in the know. No one wants to be left out on information.
